aokigahara is also known as "the sea of trees". i recorded many short tracks in january of 2020. around that time i was reading a lot about aokigahara. as i listened back to my many short tracks i began to imagine them as voices of spirits from the forest. i then assembled the individual tracks that i had recorded as one long piece which became this album. i know there are chapters in this piece but i am not spelling it out - i'm leaving it to you to hear them. it is a journey about an individual who chooses to end their life in this forest. the decision to go, the spirits they encounter and their end decision are mysteries within this piece. i hope you will understand that this album is done from a place of respect and reflection and not from an exploitative angle. i send my respect to the souls and my respect to the forest. i cannot understand motivations, only respect that they were the right ones.
please explore with respect to the spirits. it is perhaps a sad place but also a place of peace for some.
all sounds recorded between january and april 2020 by stephanie tierney.
i want to acknowledge my sonic inspirations for this recording: samayoi, greg ginn, full of hell, thurston moore, rush, masonna and likely many more. if you're interested in having my play live for you and your friends please email : starpower_2010@yahoo.ca
